Grampians National Park lookout — private tour from Melbourne
Victoria's Wild West

Mountains, Falls & Wildlife

Gariwerd, as the Grampians are traditionally known, rise abruptly from the western plains — a landscape of lookouts, waterfalls and bushland that feels far more remote than a day trip should. It's a long drive, which is exactly why a private vehicle makes sense.

💦

MacKenzie Falls

Victoria's biggest waterfall, thundering year-round into a rainbow-misted gorge — the walk down is steep but worth every step.

⛰️

Boroka & Reed Lookouts

Sweeping views across Halls Gap and the Victoria Valley — Boroka is a short stroll from the car park, so everyone gets the view.

🥾

The Pinnacle

The classic Grampians hike for the energetic — a rock balcony hanging over the valley. We'll drop hikers at Sundial car park to shorten it.

🦘

Kangaroos at Halls Gap

Mobs of kangaroos graze the town's oval and lawns at dusk — guaranteed wildlife, no zoo required.

🎨

Aboriginal Culture

Brambuk and the region's rock art shelters hold some of southeastern Australia's most significant Aboriginal cultural sites.

Three Hours, Handled

It's a big drive — leave it to us, nap on the way home, and arrive at your door instead of fighting freeway fatigue.

A Big Day in Gariwerd

The Grampians sit about three hours west of Melbourne, which puts them at the edge of day-trip range — and firmly in the sweet spot for a private tour, where the driving is someone else's job. What you get for the distance is scenery nothing closer to Melbourne can match.

The classic loop

An early start (around 7:30am) gets you to Halls Gap by mid-morning. From there: Boroka Lookout for the big view, MacKenzie Falls for the walk down to the base, lunch in Halls Gap, then either the Pinnacle hike for the fit or Lake Bellfield and the Balconies for the rest, with kangaroo spotting before the drive home. We shape it to your group's walking appetite — there are versions of this day for hikers and for grandparents.

Good to know

If you'd rather split the distance, consider it as an overnight — we run multi-day itineraries too. Ask us. For a shorter mountain day, see Puffing Billy and the Dandenongs.

Common Questions

Tour FAQs

Is this a private tour?+
Yes — it's just your group and your driver. No strangers, no rigid coach schedule. You set the pace and we tailor the stops to you.
How is the tour priced?+
One fixed price for the vehicle and driver for the day, agreed upfront — not per person. Split across your group it's usually cheaper than a coach tour, with far more flexibility.
What size groups can you take?+
From 1 to 11 passengers in a maxi cab, or up to 20 in a minibus. Child seats are available on request.
How long is the Grampians day trip?+
It's our longest day tour — around 11 to 13 hours door-to-door, with roughly three hours' driving each way. An early start makes it comfortable, and many passengers sleep on the return leg.
Is it suitable for people who can't hike?+
Yes. Boroka Lookout, the Balconies and Halls Gap's kangaroos all involve minimal walking, and we plan the day around your group's mobility. Only the Pinnacle and the falls base require real walking.
